What's the difference between
a Pug and a Chinese Pug?
Absolutely nothing. Pugs are known as Pug Dogs, Pugs, and
Chinese Pugs interchangeably. The American and English Kennel
Clubs register the breed as the Pug, as does the International
registry, the FCI.
Do Pugs snore?
Yes. Almost all Pug snores. Pugs snort, snuffle
and snore. Expect them to be noisy dogs, and occasionally barkers.
Do Pugs Shed?
Yes. Pugs come with two types of coats, a single
coat that doesn't shed much and the more common Double Coat that
has a undercoat and and course outer coat. Pugs usually shed twice
a year and can loose lots of hair.
Can Pugs stay outside?
ANSWER: In winter it is fine (expect if you live in an area with
snow but in Summer they must have a cool spot to stay. I recommend
a crate inside that you can leave your dog in when you are not
at home.
Why do Pugs have
flat faces and lots of wrinkles?
ANSWER: Because a long time ago someone decided that Pug faces
should be as flat as possible. The wrinkles are there because
the Chinese emperors wanted lucky symbols on the dogs foreheads,
and wrinkles were the best way to get them.
How much care do
they actually require then?
ANSWER: A bath once a month and a toenail trim and a brush once
a week, check their wrinkles and a Pug is happy.
How long do Pugs normally
live?
ANSWER: Pugs normally live from 10 to 14 years, but can live for
many more. My oldest boy was 16 when he passed away. Be prepared
for a LONG commitment.
Will everyone tell
me my Pug is "so ugly it's cute?"
ANSWER: Yes, probably many times. Some people just don't appreciate
the good looks of a nice pug.
