Are Vizslas hyper?
As in any active sporting breed, Vizslas are energetic
and enthusiastic. However, the Vizsla should not be hyper. Good
breeders take care to breed for a good disposition, intelligence
and personality - as well as conformation and hunting skills.
Vizslas do require daily exercise, which should include running,
not just walking, and they should have companionship and toys
so that they do not become bored. A bored Vizsla can become a
destructive Vizsla.
Can Vizslas jump fences?
Vizslas are extremely agile and can easily clear
fences over six feet (and some Vizslas may be even more "talented").
They do require a securely fenced yard. Usually, a Vizsla will
not jump high fences to leave his yard unless he is bored or lonely.
How do I find a Vizsla
puppy?
If you wish to purchase a puppy, seek out a reputable
breeder. Availability of Vizslas varies, so prepare to be patient
and to go out of state if necessary to buy your well-bred Vizsla
puppy. If you are unfamiliar with the process of finding a responsible
breeder and knowing what questions to ask, the local Vizsla
club is available to help you.
Do Vizslas shed?
Yes, all year round, though the change of season
to/from winter marks the major time points when the dogs change
coat. Bitches will also loose coat around the time their pups
are weaned.
Do Vizslas get along
with cats?
Yes, Vizslas can live with cats. Dogs which are not brought up
with cats will often want to chase them, and certainly many dogs
will chase neighbours cats out of their yard but not those which
belong in their household. As long as the cats can get away from
dogs (get up on furniture etc), they usually rule.
How do I find a reputable
breeder?
A start would be by picking up dog magazines: National
Dog being the most popular in Australia. . Attend
a show and purchase a
show catalog. Talk to exhibitors after they are done showing (many
exhibitors are tense before they go into the ring, so ask to talk
to them when they are finished exhibiting). Most exhibitors are
willing and eager to talk about their breed.
If you are computerized, surf the internet. You
have the ability to talk to Vizsla people all over the world.
Dogzonline
is a great place to start.
